Session Topic
Physics of Life (PoL) research is emerging as having a disruptive potential to address key challenges in both science and society. On the back of these transformative research activities, UKRI has commissioned a Roadmap for the Physics of Life, a consultation both from and for the UK Physics of Life community and its manifold stakeholders across the interface between the physical and life sciences, involving both academic researchers and myriad non-academic partners. Community-led discussions have thus far distilled 6-7 key Themes within PoL research for which the UK is exhibiting internationally competitive and in some case world-leading potential (https://www.physicsoflife.org.uk/physics-of-life-roadmap.html). Bioimaging, as a transformative underpinning approach, offers exceptionally powerful tools and methods which cut across all of these Themes. In this open PoL Roadmap session, I will describe the findings from recent Roadmap surveys and discussions, and will chair a discussion inviting open participation from everyone present to gather information from the UK Bioimaging community to help inform and shape the future landscape of UK PoL research.
