Lionel studies solid state phase transformations in metals, mainly in steels and titanium alloys. For this purpose, he makes an intensive use of EBSD measurements. In particular, based on the pioneering work of M. Humbert and N. Gey, he has developed several tools to process and analyze EBSD data, among which the reconstruction of the parent phase before transformation is the best known. More recently, he has started to integrate artificial intelligence based algorithms to process EBSD data.
