As proud supporters of the Technician Commitment, the RMS continues to offer technical training subsidies to empower and support members of the technical community to take part in RMS training events. If you are in a technician role working in higher education or research and would like to apply for a subsidy on the course registration fee, please complete the application form under the Technician Subsidy tab before registering for the course. If you are awarded a subsidy you may be asked to write or contribute to a short report for infocus about your learning outcomes following the training.

Admittance to this event is for registered and authorised attendees. Unfortunately we cannot permit access to visitors or allow non-registered persons. If you have any questions, please contact email debbie@rms.org.uk.
Venue and Travel
The Light Microscopy Summer School will be held at the University of York, UK.
Plane: The nearest airports are Leeds Bradford Airport and Manchester Airport. Trains from Leeds to York are frequent and approximately 25 minutes. Trains direct to York from Manchester Airport take approximately two hours.
Train: We recommend York train Station.
Bus: You can reach York by coach from many destinations around the country. National Express coaches stop at the railway station.
First Bus York runs regular services from York city centre to the University.
Accommodation
Please note accommodation is not included in your registration fee.
We would recommend staying within York City Centre, as there are lots of hotel options, they are near to York Station, and it is easy to get a local bus to the University.
We have previously used the following hotels in York:
- Premier Inn, York City, Blossom Street North
- Premier Inn, York City, Blossom Street South
- ibis York Centre
- Hotel Indigo York

Attendee Information
Further information will be sent out to you, by email, nearer the time of the course.
The RMS are committed to reducing waste and making all of our activities more sustainable. With this in mind we have reduced the amount of printing associated with our events, turning to online solutions, therefore, we will only be providing an electronic copy of the programme and course material.
There is no dress code for the course, but please dress appropriately considering the equipment and materials being used on the course. There is no dress code for the evening dinners.
The programme for the course will start at 9am on Monday and Tuesday and will finish no later than 5:00pm on Monday and 4:30pm on Tuesday. This will be an in person course and there will not be the opportunity to attend online. All times are British Summer Time (BST).
Lunch and tea/coffee will be provided during the breaks each day. The course dinner will be on Monday evening, this is included in your registration fee. If you do not wish to attend the dinner, please email debbie@rms.org.uk as soon as possible.
Every care will be taken to cater for any dietary requirements or allergens. Attendees must make the RMS aware of these requirements via the registration process. If you have any concerns, please contact debbie@rms.org.uk.
Accessibility
Most of the buildings being used for the course have accessible access. If you have any questions, or accessibility requirements you would like to inform us of, please email debbie@rms.org.uk.
Covid-19
Please do not attend this in person event if you have COVID-19 symptoms or are feeling unwell. For more information on how to avoid catching and spreading COVID-19 visit the NHS website.
If you would like to wear a mask at our event, we welcome anyone to do so if they wish. There will be spare masks and hand sanitiser available at the RMS welcome desk for anyone that requires them.

Recording Equipment at RMS Events
Please note that the use of personal recording equipment including camera and Dictaphones is not permitted unless arranged with each individual lecturer beforehand.
Official Photography
There may be a number of people taking official photographs to record this event and also to use in future promotional material for the RMS. If for any reason you do not wish to be included in these photos, please let your RMS event organiser know on the day of the event.
