Expertise

Imaging Platforms

Keywords - Platforms: Analytical Flow Cytometry | Cell Sorting

The facility houses 3 cell sorters and 5 analysis cytometers.
The cell sorters: BD FACSAria IIu, FACSAriaFusion and Influx, operate with an assisted service. The Fusion and the Influx are contained in Class II biosafety cabinets.
The 5 analysers: 2 BD LSR Fortessas, Cytek Aurora (spectral cytometer), a ThermoFisher Attune Nxt and BD Accuri C6 are generally self-service instruments, following dedicated in-house training. Please see the facility website for instrument-specific configuration details.

Applications

Keywords - Applications: Phenotyping | Cell cycle | Mammalian Cells | Bacteria | Fluorescent Proteins | Functional Studies | Microvesicles | Clinical Studies

Due to the diverse user-base, our staff are highly experienced in many flow cytometry and cell sorting applications.

Data Analysis

Keywords - Software: FlowJo

The QMRI Flow Cytometry facility has a dedicated bookable analysis workstation. Staff offer software training and are available to support data analysis and interpretation.

Shared Access

The QMRI Flow Cytometry facility is open to all researchers from the University of Edinburgh. We are also able to provide access/cytometry services to external academics and commercial scientists, with several contract options available.

Funding

The QMRI Flow Cytometry Facility operates to a re-charge/cost recovery model, with equipment purchases supported by matched fund research applications.
